About the Department
The field of Computer Engineering is an amalgamation of diverse fields including Electrical Engineering and Computer Science which is required to develop computer hardware and software. The Computer Engineering students undergo training in Electronics, Electricals, Software Design and Hardware-Software apart from software basics and training. Computer engineers are required to have knowledge of computer Hardware, Software, Microprocessors, Microcontrollers and also circuit design.
Usually the task of Computer Engineers is to write software codes and should have the knowledge of diverse fields including Programming Languages, Database, Logic Gates, Artificial Intelligence, User Interface, controlling of Microcontrollers, Embedded Systems, Operating Systems. Computer engineers are also suited for robotics research, which relies heavily on using digital systems to control and monitor electrical systems like motors, communications, and sensors.
The computer engineering department was established in 2009. The department offers regular undergraduate program in “Computer Engineering” having intake of 60, affiliated to University of Mumbai.
The department has young dynamic, qualified teaching faculty and non-teaching staff with well-equipped laboratories. The teaching faculties are actively involved and also encourage students in research and publishing papers in reputed journals and conference. All technical activities of the department are conducted under the banner of CSI-VIT.
The Computer Engineering Department, VIVA Institute of technology we have always strived to provide quality and relevant education to the students. For the same reason we have undertaken many initiatives like conduction of seminars, workshops and technical events on current and new technologies for the students and faculties. Short Term Training Programmes are also arranged for the educators on new technologies and on research topics. We at the department successfully conducted training programmes on ‘Cloud Computing’, ‘Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing', 'Ethical Hacking and IT Security', 'Machine Learning and Deep Learning'.
The department has taken initiatives where the students are able to present seminars or conduct workshops on any new technologies that they might have learnt. Keeping in line with this and to encourage the students and faculties alike it was decided to launch the TECH-NEXT: A Biannual Technology Review Magazine. The magazine provides a platform for the students, faculties and technical minded people to share, express and present their views and reviews on the current trends in technology.
In the same way it was felt that the department should provide a platform that would encourage the students, faculty and researchers to showcase their finding and original ideas. This was the inception and the motivation for starting an International Journal.
